Research and knowledge in the Balearic Islands and the intervention of the public administration
The delegation of Basilicata was welcomed by Pep Lluís Pons (general director of innovation and research at the Balearic Island’s Government), then Joan Perelló (president of BIOIB) and Mariela Adrover (cluster manager of BIOIB) presented the cluster and the innovation ecosystem. The meeting continued visiting the Scientific Centre of the Balearic Islands (ParcBit), including a guide to two new buildings under construction.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) where the innovation vice-director, Dr. Jordi Llabrés welcomed the guests. Thereafter, several research groups were introduced by the representatives: IUNICS (Research Institute of Health Sciences) by Dr. Fèlix Grasses, INAGEA (Institute Investigations of Ambient and Water Economics) by Dr. Hippólito Medrano and the Agro-food engineering Group by Dr. Susana Simal. The day was closed by visiting the scientific and technical services and facilities under the guide of Sebastiàn Albertí.
Second day – 19th November 2015
The biotechnology business sector in the Balearic Islands
In the morning, the delegation of Basilicata visited two enterprises of the BIOIB cluster, the Bionorica Extracts S.L. and the Labo’Life España S.A. in Consell. The projects and the facilities of the two companies were shown by the representatives.
Later, the Bioincubation program was introduced by the Incubator of Enterprises of ParcBit, #EMPRENBIT. The presentation was followed by the introduction of CIRCLE (Center for Intelligent Research in Crystal Engineering) by Fernando Barrera. Lipopharma biopharmaceutical company was described by Vicenç Tur, the Project BIPSIN, in particular the Mentalcheck platform by Mercedes Martínez.
The study visit finished with conclusions and valorisations of the workshops by the steering committee and the delegation of Basilicata.
